Friday May 24th Special Concert celebrating 100th anniversary of Cecil Sharp
At the turn of the 20th century Cecil Sharp began on his journey, here in Somerset, collecting traditional songs and tunes. As well as meeting musicians and noting folk dances he is said to have collected over 1500 songs and tunes in England over 3000 in three trips to the Appalachian mountains in America. As well as writing down the words and music he heard, he photographed many of the performers most of whom who were ordinary working people, shepherds, sailors, factory girls, farmworkers, as well as inmates of the Victorian workhouse. Seven Somerset musicians and singers will give a flavour of the material he found, along with a slide show of photographs from the time and a commentary by Chris Storie local Cecil Sharp enthusiast.

Performers are always welcome as, of course, are audience.
Open sessions are a chance to perform .. the number of items depending on the numbers of performers on a particular evening. We always start promptly at 8pm and try to finish at 10.30pm. To be fair, priority is given to performers arriving earlier. We are blessed with a goodly number of regular performers.... so come early to avoid missing out. You can always ring us beforehand.

Entrance We ask for a £2 contribution ... (a jolly raffle ticket ...).
enough to cover hire of hall, a bag of coal in the winter and the cost of an occasional guest ....
